    Writing musings and blah
I have, for the last few days, been thinking about what I've been writing.

I started tamingthemuse (on LJ) back in September/October because I wanted to get myself back into writing, wanted something to motivate myself. Obviously, it worked and I've written 12 consecutive weeks, which I'm very pleased with.

However, I'm concerned that in juggling writing for Taming with not having a lot of time in RL, is constraining what it is that I'm writing. I LOVE writing for their infinitely variable and often obscure prompts, but I'm concerned that what I'm writing - trying to get it done for the deadline etc - is merely sufficient rather than good.

So, I guess I'm wondering, should I give up on trying to write that frequently (ie a fic a week) and concentrate instead on producing longer, better works of fiction (I am, at the moment, specifically referring to fanfiction, and specifically to Merlin, since that's what I'm interested in at the moment)? Will I be happier with my own work if I feel that I've given it more time and thought to mature. Or will I lose the motivation to get it done once I lose the deadline?

I'd love your opinion: Do you think I should keep feeding my happy muse and sailing along with little fics every week? OR do you think I should try and focus on fewer fics and make them better fics acknowledging that I've got what I can out of Taming?

    Fic Catchup post 2
So yes, it seems that I am still writing. Even to the extent that I may have to start parallel posting here and in LJ...

And why, you ask, have I managed to keep writing after completely failing to write anything creative for months? The answer comes in two parts:

    1. I love the LJ comm Taming the Muse. It encourages me to write without forcing unnecessary constrictions. I want to keep going, week after week.

    2. Oh dear, I fell into a pretty baby fandom.

This fandom is for the BBCs new "family" show in the Dr Who slot - Merlin (Official website)
This is basically a Smallville-esque retelling of the Arthurian legends with Arthur, Merlin et al as young adults growing up together in a fantasy-romance version of Camelot. It's really guilty pleasure watching.

And yes - in ep 4 Merlin does writhe around on his bed calling out, "Arthur.. Arthur!.. Faster... Go faster!" (I think that's enough of a reason by itself to watch this show!)

So, because I know a lot of people on my flist haven't seen it (so far there are only 5 eps anyway), I have written an intro post with pretty pictures here.

And then I started writing fic:

    Livery
Arthur/Merlin. PG. (Taming the muse prompt "Claddagh")

    Together
    Arthur/Merlin/Lancelot. R.

    Arthur's Afternoon
    Arthur/Merlin/Lancelot. NC17.

And so it came to pass
Multiple pairings. PG. (Taming the muse prompt "mortal coil")

And now I'm starting to think I need to write something bigger and more satisfying that I can actually sink my teeth into. I feel like my rusty writing muscles are actually starting to warm up again and I want to give myself a bit more of a challenge.

    Creeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaak
*points up* That is the sound of my fanfiction writing muscles as they are flexed and all the rust starts to flake off...

As a warm up, here is a little PWP that I wrote for [info]angiepen after watching Prince Caspian. I don't even know if there are suitable Narnia RPS communities in which one is allowed to post this kind of thing. Will look.

    Title: Teach Me
    Fandom: Narnia RPS
    Pairing: Liam Neeson/Ben Barnes
    Rating: NC17
Summary: Ben wants to learn from Liam.
    A/N: This is Angie's fault entirely :P

    Read it here

Also, I have updated my ignored fic index.

So, what shall I write next? I am interested in a Peter/Caspian FPS. But I'm happy to be led astray in another direction.
